Have to Go
03:48
|
|||
Yeah I was listenin’ to Lynyrd Skynyrd on the radio
And you didn’t say a word as you walked out the door
Ya the music’s been playin’ loud,
but the mood’s been way down low
Oh, you’re gonna have to go
Yeah, Van was goin’ ballistic about
somethin’ goin’ mystic in the lyrics
And as you walked down the street
my feet were keepin’ the beat to the music
You’ve been livin’ in a dream and I’ve been
tryin’ to scream Please get realistic!
Oh, you’re gonna have to go
I’m sayin’ "Hey, what’s your name?
I don’t know you any more"
I’m sayin’ "Hey, what’s your game?
You been draggin’ me way down low"
Oh... You’re gonna have to go.
Yeah I overheard the neighbours
talkin’ on their front lawn.
I said "Oh no, no. You see...
you’ve got it all wrong"
We were only room-mates all along
They said "By God young man,
what could’ve led her along?"
"She’s got her pattern picked out,
her maid of honour no doubt!"
Oh, you’re gonna have to go...

Better Learn to Climb
03:19
|
|||
Those who say life’s got its ups and downs
Ain’t ever lived in my home town
You can gauge your day where I come from
By the size of the hill you just tumbled from
And the old folks got their favourite line
"This mountain ain’t gettin’ any smaller...
No stairs, elevators, just this steep incline
...so you’d better learn to climb..."
So you start climbin’ this mountain on your hands and knees
You look like you’re beggin’ "Help me, please!"
You wear out your pride like an old pair of shoes
Whoever said we had to pay your dues?
And there ain’t much ground I’ve left behind...
"This mountain ain’t gettin’ any smaller...
No stairs, elevators, just this steep incline...
so you’d better learn to climb..."

I Wish I was a Fly
04:48
|
|||
I wish I could be a fly upon the wall
To see if your pretty face would light up or fall
Then I'd be there to hear just what you would say
When you get the flowers I sent you today...
I wish... you could be mine
I wish I was a frog livin' in a pond
Just to see you swimmin' with no clothes on
On my big lily pad I'd pucker up for a kiss
Hopin’ I could be your fairy tale prince...
I wish... I wish you... I wish... you could be mine
I wish I could be a thought that gets inside your mind
Then you could do my thinking cause I'm not the thoughtful kind
If I could be your glasses why then you could see through me
I would bring your full attention to things you cannot see...
I wish I was a novel, the kind you’d read in bed
Then I'd be there to comfort you with words I wish I'd said
My spine may have been tattered and my cover showing through
(but at least) every time you'd turn the page
I'd get another look at you
I wish... I wish you... I wish... you could be mine
I wish you were a spider in an abandoned garden shed
Then I could be a spider too and get caught up in your web
Then the birds and the bees they'd have nothin' on me
Cause I'd have eight furry legs and they’d all aim to please...
I wish... I wish you... I wish... you could be mine

Meagan
03:50
|
|||
Meagan is crying tonight, it's a shame
I guess not every love you find
is the kind that never ends
And she knows,
this one did a long time ago
There's an empty heart now,
where it used to overflow
The tears have all dried up
and she's tryin' hard
To forget a broken dream
that fell like a shooting star
And I know, she'll survive,
she's been there before
Every time I see her,
I feel I'm knocking on her door
Meagan please answer,
you are a lonely girl
And I am just a poor boy,
who would give you the world
Your love has died,
but I can give you mine
Meagan please be here
in my arms tonight
Meagan is crying tonight, it's a shame
I guess not every love you find
is the kind that never ends
And I know, she'll survive,
she's been there before
Every time I see her,
I feel I'm knocking on her door

Once and For All
03:46
|
|||
The telephone rang, and I reached out my hand
To find out who was callin’ me this time
So much to my surprise, it brought a tear to my eye
I sure am glad you dropped me a line
You know I care for you deeply, and I often think sweetly
Of the times when we were young
But in time a boy’s got to be a man and do all he can
To find out once and for all...
if he can reach the stars
I’m gonna be busy for a while
And I’m sorry I won’t be around to share your smile
Maybe someday you’ll hear my voice like magic on the radio
But at least until that time... we’ve still got the telephone line
You know I care for you deeply, and I often think sweetly
Of the times when we were young
But in time a boy’s got to be a man and do all he can
To find out once and for all... if his dreamin’ days are done
...Yeah, maybe someday you’ll see me singin' this song on a video
But at least until that time... we’ve still got the doorbell chime

Sure Reminds Me
04:40
|
|||
The fake wood panelling on the closet door
reminds me of my Dad’s old car
The lampshade reminds me of my Mom’s long skirts
she’d wear out in the yard
And the ceiling ain’t made quite the same
but it’s got that nicotine glow
Yeah this hotel room ain’t nowhere near it
but it sure reminds me of home
Ooo... yeah it sure reminds me of home
The ashtray’s made of the same ceramic
as my sister’s piggy bank
And the boat in that sun-faded picture frame
looks like the one my big brother sank
Yeah with these four walls cavin’ in on me,
I only wish I had my own boat to row
No it ain’t anywhere near it
but it sure reminds me of home
Ooo... yeah it sure reminds me of home
Yeah these eggs... they sure taste like rubber
and I only wish the bacon would too
I’m a hundred and fifty thousand miles away
but this place sure reminds me of you
Yeah this place sure reminds me of you
Ooo...
The fake wood panelling on the closet
reminds me of my Dad’s old car
The lampshade... of my Mom’s long skirts
she'd wear gardening in the yard
Yeah these miles are gonna drive me crazy
if the memories don’t
Yeah this hotel room ain’t nowhere near it
but it sure reminds me of home
Ooo... yeah it sure reminds me of home

Cross the Line
04:49
|
|||
Though I know I let you kiss me
Up there on the dance floor
Yes I know I let you kiss me
Right there when the lights were low
Everybody around was waiting to see
The rumours stirring all around
Everybody was watching you and me
And you loved it as it all went down
You can’t force your dreams on anyone
Like you tried to force your tongue on me
I’ll be your friend til you cross that line
then you’ll never set your eyes on me...
Cause it’s once, shame on you...
twice, shame on me
I'm not offended by your reaction
And no, I'm not gay, but thanks for askin'
It's a perfectly legitimate question
For someone who can't handle rejection
But it's still once, shame on you...
twice, shame on me

Just for You
03:29
|
|||
Don’t tell anyone that I’d be lost without you
Don’t tell anyone that I’m madly in love with you
Infatuated, totally elated, a love so under-rated
Ooh all these feelings that these words have under-stated
About the best that I could possibly do
Is to say that my never-ending love is just for you
Don’t tell anyone about the plans we’ll have someday
Don’t tell anyone about the dreams we share today
Just day-dreaming, always believing, forever scheming
Ooh all these fantasies have got me beaming
And still the best that I could possibly do
Is to say that my never-ending love and devotion’s just for you
Come closer, let me be by your side
Help me never to hide the feelings I have for you
Infatuated, totally elated, a love so under-rated
Ooh all these feelings that these words have under-stated
Just day-dreaming, always believing, forever scheming
Ooh all these fantasies have got me beaming
And still the best that I could possibly do
Is to say that my never-ending love and devotion’s just for you

I held that key-chain you gave me that night, pre-flight
The night you kept me warm underneath the autumn starlight
I was so certain those warm embraces you gave me were dreams
of a seeker seeing illusions cast by moon beams
Ooh, it felt so nice, to send loneliness to be sacrificed
All I knew was forgotten, except for you
I had no reason for singin' the blues
I'll tell you about my birds, bees, flowers and trees
they'd been blown out to sea by a violent spring breeze
And were lost in a liquid desert, ever adrift
Until out of the blue you gave me your loving gift

Somewhere Else
03:06
|
|||
I’m wasting the best part of me
on people who just don’t see
I’d rather be somewhere else
This is not the life I want to live
A little for me and then give, give, give
I’d rather be somewhere else
And there’s a turn that you turn
when you learn that you’ve earned
a little less than nothing
And the ones that you love
are those you’re thinkin’ of
a little more than nothing
And how do you make it come together?
How do you make it come together?
And the longer you wait to get going
the longer the journey seems to be
But the sooner you get on the road
the longer the journey seems to be
The sooner you start, the longer you wait
But you’re runnin’ and runnin’ cause you can’t be late
And the clock’ll strike whether you’re there or not
Get there and remember what you forgot
No time to think, no time to sleep
No time to make time while the seconds creep
Analog, digital, sundials, internals
Ticking and tocking sounds infernal
(Clickety Clock’s not my friend…)
Traffic drastic. Nice trick
I’m jammed. I’m spammed. I’m damned.
I’d rather be somewhere else
Someday I pray I’ll say I’m on my way
My time, free time, family time all mine
And I won’t wanna be somewhere else
Cuz there’s a turn that I’ll turn
and I’ll learn that I’ve earned
a little more than lovin’
And the ones that I love
tell me I’m the one they’re thinking’ of
and they’d do anything… for me
And then I’ll know it came together
Yes, then I’ll know it came together

You Are the One (live)
03:24
|
|||
She is the memory,
the memory in my mind
Memories don’t go to sleep,
they’re rekindled all the time
Every time I see you Babe,
I think of all you’ve meant
Every time I see you look at me
I see a love that’s Heaven sent
But you are the one,
the one I know, the one I love
The one that makes the stars above me glow
I’ve got memories of love,
and visions in my mind
I’ve got memories of you
for a long, long time
The thought of you and some kids Babe,
will always make me smile
You’ve made my life complete
and made it all worthwhile
And you are the one,
the one I know, the one I love
The one that makes the stars above me glow
If not for you Babe,
the seeds of love would be unsown
You’ve brought a quality…
such that I’ve never known
But now I thank you Babe,
you’ve opened up my eyes
I will always be in debt to you,
beyond the tears that I’ve cried
Cause you are the one,
the one I know, the one I love
The one that makes the stars above me glow
Yes you are the one,
the one I know, the one I love
The one that made the stars high above me glow

Luc Normand Ontario
A Canadian singer/songwriter who started off as a drummer in a band that had no musicians capable of composing music to go
with his lyrics. One guy threw an old beat up guitar in his lap and said "Here... pluck out the melody on one string."
That was 1982.
Now look where it's gotten us...
